My name is Mollie, and I am writing to share my story to show that WinGate does change lives. I was a student at WinGate from the middle of March 2023 to the end of July 2023. I was sent to WinGate at the age of 17 due to being a safety risk to myself. I have been battling with depression for the majority of my life and it has been incredibly difficult to manage at times. During my time at WinGate, I developed a knowledge of inner strength that I didn't know was inside of me all along, whether it be from the challenging hikes, or struggling for weeks to make fire primitively. WinGate gave me tools to continue choosing to persevere and essentially keep moving forward through their nomadic philosophy and treatment structure. I turned 18 during my stay at WinGate, and chose to stay at my own free will because I understood and wanted the life changing help that WinGate provides. WinGate has saved the lives of many and its shutting down means that future teens and young adults will be saved because WinGate is not here anymore to save them. I believe that wilderness works, and a therapeutic program as life saving and changing as WinGate is essential to the lives of not only future students, but also their loved ones. With all my love, thank you for taking a piece of your time to read my story.
Mollie.
