I was a Wingate student in 2016 as a 15 year old, and the program as whole changed the course of not only my adolescent but also adult life. The disconnect from the distractions of modern society created a space where I was finally able to connect with not only nature but the unconditional love that my life at home lacked. I will not claim wingate is a perfect program, nor would wingate themselves. Like all therapeutic interventions it is constantly evolving craft, but I will say the intention of the program as a whole was pure and I experienced nothing but support and love from the field staff, therapists, and office. I wish there was more opportunity’s for kids today to expierence not only the freedom and love of the great outdoors but of therapy as a whole. It saved and changed my life, and it’s break my heart that it may not be available to teens and young adults in need in the future.
