I went to WinGate twice. The first time was in 2014 when I was 16 years old. WinGate (and my therapist, Erin Grover) helped me build a level of confidence I never knew was attainable when my depression and eating disorder was at an all time low after a traumatic childhood. The second time I went was in 2018 when I was 20-years-old. I had just lost both of my adoptive parents and was extremely lost in the world. Everything felt scary and unmanageable, and I wasn’t sure I was going to live through it. I reached out to Erin Grover and asked if I could come back and be in the adult program because I remember how much WinGate helped me with my other issues. Within weeks, I was back in the program. I did Somatic Experiencing therapy, got back in tune with my survival skills, and had the opportunity to practice engaging in healthy attachments after experiencing such a traumatic attachment injury. The staff always made sure I felt safe and secure. They pushed me when I was ready to do the hard work, and they supported me in times that I wasn’t ready. WinGate always has been, and always will be, the one place that I can comfortably call “home”.
